Valve released the alpha version of the developer Toolkit for Dota 2 tonight. In addition to the joy in the camp of DotA modders, this Toolkit has one very interesting nuance — it is built on the basis of Source 2: all the resources and code of the game are ported to the new engine. The updated hammer 2014 editor displays the map in real time with dynamic lighting and shadows.

According to Destructoid, Jason Hayes, a well-known game composer, joined the ranks of Valve. He previously worked for Blizzard Entertainment, where he wrote music for Starcraft, Diablo II, Warcraft III, and World of Warcraft, as well as for the company’s video and game trailers.

From 17 to 21 August is the international championship DotA 2. Two teams take part: m5 (Russia) and Na’vi (Ukraine). The event’s website is live streamed daily, sometimes with a Russian commentator.
A new brand of Valve.
Recently, Valve officially registered the trademark “DOTA” (Defense of the Ancients, most likely), thereby almost confirming that the recently hired Icefrog, the Creator of the eponymous original map for Warcraft 3, is working on a similar project, but this time under the strict guidance of Valve.
